KOCT to play tribute to Nanninga

OCEANSIDEKOCT will honor the late Robert Nanninga by replaying some of his edgy environmental television programs; as-well-as the poetry tribute, “Robert Nanninga Remembered,” held March 12, 2009 at the La Paloma Theatre in Encinitas.

Robert Nanninga died on Valentines Day, Feb. 14, 2009 of pneumonia at age 45. Nanninga and his life partner Keith Shillington co-owned the now defunct E Street Café. It was a popular hangout for poets, musicians, and community leaders. Bob was well known for his newspaper column in The Coast News “Observations from the Edge,” and as host for the Full Moon Poets poetry slam.

KOCT will air: “Observations from the Edge,” “Selling Out,” and “A Creek Story” — three environmental television programs he co-produced with independent filmmaker, Tom Reeser. Excerpts from Bob’s TV shows and a video of the opening of the E Street Café precede the poetry and music performed in his honor in “Robert Nanninga Remembered.”

KOCT is available on Cox Cable in Oceanside, via AT&T’s U-Verse TV service countrywide (channel 99). KOCT streams its programming “live” on KOCT.org and clicking “Watch KOCT 19” at the top of the page. The programs will be aired on KOCT, Channel 19 on the following days and times:

Thursday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.

Friday, Feb. 12 at 8 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 13 at 9 a.m.

The tribute will also be available as Video On Demand via KOCT.org under the Specials section.
