Jewelry store thief arrested in Orange County

CARLSBAD — A would-be thief left his calling card after snatching $20,000 worth of valuables from a local jewelry store on Friday.

The small-time criminal forgot his cellphone leading Carlsbad police to arrest 37-year-old Clyde Lydelle Anderson on charges of robbery, commercial burglary and grand theft.

According to a press release from the CPD, Anderson entered Henderson’s Jewelry on the 300 block of Carlsbad Village Drive. He swiped the items, however, Anderson dropped his phone during the robbery and fled with the stolen diamonds.

Officers responded to the call and conducted a search in the area. After recovering the phone, detectives arrested Anderson, who was hiding under the bed in an apartment in Rancho Santa Margarita in Orange County, and conducted a photo lineup.

The victim identified Anderson as the culprit, although the diamonds were not recovered.
