Incumbents file paperwork for upcoming elections

CARLSBAD— The filing period for City Council candidates opened July 14. Voters will choose a mayor, two City Council members, a City Clerk and Treasurer.

As of July 25, the only people who have picked up or filed paperwork already hold positions in the council.

Mayor Matt Hall has served on the council since 1994. He was the Mayor Pro Tem for two terms, one in 1998 and one in 2004. This will be his second term running as a Mayoral candidate, once he turns in his paperwork and is approved by the San Diego County Registrar of Voters.

Mayor Pro Tem Mark Packard has also picked up paperwork. He has been a Councilman since 2002 making this his fourth run.

City Clerk Barbara Engleson and City Treasurer Craig Lindholm have picked up paperwork for their respective positions.

The only candidate who has filed paperwork is Michael Schumacher, who was chosen by the council in March to fill Councilwoman Farrah Douglas’ seat when she suddenly resigned because of personal and family commitments.

Schumacher served four years on both the Planning Commission and Design Review Board before becoming Councilman. He was chosen by the council among 38 other applicants.

The filing period ends August 8 at 5 p.m. for the November elections.
