Gallery hosts art students

SAN MARCOS — Local students received a taste of art as paint splattered the walls of Twin Oaks Gallery on Jan. 31. A young artist reception featuring students from North Star Academy showcased Jackson Pollock inspired art. The students were treated to a live demonstration by award winning abstract artist Celestte.
Friends and families of the local home-based school were invited by the Twin Oaks Gallery to take part in a public exhibit featuring art taught by instructor Jillene Rios. In addition to experiencing their own art show, featured artist Celestte brought out her canvas and paints and gave a live performance based on abstract expressionism.
The young artists were also given the opportunity to discuss and share their own work with Celestte. She answered questions and took pictures with the students.
The experience and real life education is just one of the many things Twin Oaks Gallery is aiming to give back. As one of North County’s newest community art ventures, the local gallery and custom frame shop hopes to provide many more chances for students to gain exposure in the art world.
Launched in October, Twin Oaks Art & Frame is owned and operated solely by a mother-daughter team. The gallery is currently booking artists for 2009. Visit www.twinoaksgallery.com to learn more.
