Fire District names Firefighter of the Year

RANCHO SANTA FE — The Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District has named Engineer Dave McQuead as the recipient of the 2008 David B. Dewey Firefighter of the Year Award. McQuead was announced as the recipient of the award by his peers at the annual Rancho Santa Fe Appreciation Dinner hosted by the Rancho Santa Fe Rotary Club and The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe on May 8.
McQuead, who has been referred to by his colleagues as ADD for “All Day Dave,” involved in training groups, developing hazard materials and structure response scenarios for drills. He also recently volunteered to direct the Community Emergency Response Team for the Fire District. In addition, McQuead serves as the secretary for the Rancho Santa Fe Professional Firefighters Association.
Battalion Chief Mike Gibbs praised McQuead’s efforts, saying “Dave is an excellent example of an individual who truly loves the fire service and takes great pride in making our district excel as an organization. He always has a positive attitude towards his day and his job and is always willing to put forth the extra effort in his duties.”
In addition to the Firefighter of the Year, awards were given for years of service. Also participating in the event were the North County Dispatch Joint Powers Authority and Rancho Santa Fe Patrol.
