RANCHO SANTA FE — More than 20 law enforcement officials and aerial support from a helicopter were required to tame an out of control party pervaded by fighting in the street, copious drinking and two stabbings just after midnight on Nov. 24.
An ongoing investigation revealed that two people were stabbed at the party, although initial sheriff’s reports stated that only one person was stabbed.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered evidence of a stabbing on the street and driveway, but the victims and suspects had already left the scene, according to a press release from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
One victim who had been stabbed in the arm was located later that night at a nearby hospital, and became aggressive when approached by deputies, according to the press release.
Deputies subsequently pepper sprayed the male victim and took him into custody after he was treated and released by medical staff.
A second male victim who had been stabbed in the hand was located on Nov. 27 during the follow up investigation, said Lt. Dan Brislin. The investigation is still ongoing.
Approximately 200 attendees were “literally all over the place” at 17000 block of Los Morros when Sheriff’s Deputies arrived in response to a call about the stabbing, said Brislin.
Deputies called for backup from Poway, San Marcos, Vista and other stations.
A fight broke out as deputies attempted to investigate the incident. Deputies used a taser to arrest one of the individuals.
Deputies also arrested three other individuals for disorderly conduct and/or for being drunk in public while obtaining witness statements.
A number of partiers were also detained for underage drinking, according to Brislin.
The homeowner, 59-year-old Noel Meza, had allowed his three sons to throw the party that evening, but the party far exceeded his expectations, said Brislin.
Meza did not call law enforcement as the party grew out of control, and was arrested for violating the Social Host Ordinance.
RSF Patrol Chief Matt Wellhouser said that the RSF Patrol generally does not have patrol responses to the Meza residence.
