CAMP PENDLETON — According to the Family Readiness Officer Supervisor Personnel Handbook, “Family readiness is a combat multiplier, equally as important as individual, equipment, and combat readiness.”
Toward that end, Melissa Campbell arrived at Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton last year in August. She was hired as a full-time civilian to lead the Unit Family Readiness Program. Armed with a contagious smile and a sincere passion to help the Marines and their families, she has had a tremendous impact on moral from day one.
This year, Campbell was the recipient of the “On-the-Spot” Award given by Colonel Micheal L. Lawrence, Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton, for her efforts in family readiness.
Campbell’s enthusiasm can be seen every time she organizes an event for the Marines and their family. She is also an excellent source of information for Marine and family resources. Under her, a unit food pantry was established for Marines needing food items and baby formula. Other exceptional events include her network liaison with a in Oceanside, which resulted in a toy for every child of an H&HS MCAS Marine for Christmas.
