re: Encinitas Oktoberfest

“I don’t know anyone who’s ever gone away hungry from one of Big John’s meals, chamber President Bob Gattinella said.”

Well, I went away hungry. Unlike last year, the portions this year were downright skimpy – maybe a tablespoon of potato salad, maybe the same of sauerkraut. A single Braut on a roll with some grilled onions. Not bad tasting stuff, but skimpy.

Previous years you got three sausages, potato salad, sauerkraut, red cabbage, and a roll (very similar to the sausage plate served at Tip-Top – which is excellent, by the way). Always had enough for a hearty lunch with maybe some to take home.

Hard to believe Big John had anything to do with this.

This year was a disappointment.
