CARLSBAD — Most people know that computers, monitors, televisions, cell phones, CD players, DVD players and other electronics don’t belong in landfills, but they don’t know what to do with them.
Sea Life Aquarium is partnering with Recycle San Diego and I Love A Clean San Diego to host an electronic waste collection event from 8 a.m. to noon May 16.
During the event, every car bringing in e-waste to recycle receives one free ticket to the aquarium and the driver is entered into a drawing for fun prizes. A special gate into the parking lot will be open for e-waste deliveries to enter without having to pay at the tolls. You do not have to visit the Aquarium to donate and the free ticket is good for several months.
In addition to the electronics listed above, items accepted during the event include modems, printers, radios, remote controls, batteries, pagers, telephones, answering machines, microwaves and electronic games. Recycle San Diego uses special equipment to shred hard drives that may contain sensitive information, insuring that personal information does not fall into the wrong hands. For a complete list of acceptable e-waste, visit www.recyclesd.com.
