CARLSBAD — A 25-year-old man who was arrested for trying to steal from his employer two months after being placed on probation for robbing and assaulting an elderly man was sentenced to two years in prison, a San Diego Superior Court judge ruled July 7.
Eric Brandon Harmon pleaded guilty in April to one count of attempted grand theft in connection to the nearly $600 he tried to steal as an employee at a North County gas station, according to court documents. Harmon’s arrest came just months after he was placed on three years probation for robbing an elderly man at a Carlsbad shelter.
In the latter case, police said Harmon robbed a then 67-year-old wheelchair-bound man at the La Posada De Guadalupe Men’s Shelter on Impala Drive in Carlsbad, where both he and the victim were residing. After the victim refused to give Harmon money when he asked, the elderly man told police the defendant choked and punched him, and then took his money; the victim did not require any medical treatment, according to authorities.
