City workers show off off-duty artwork

CARLSBAD — The city of Carlsbad’s Cultural Arts Office is hosting the fifth showing of “On Your Time: The National Arts Program Exhibition at Carlsbad.”
The event showcases the art of city of Carlsbad employees and their families, beginning May 22 through June 13 at the William D. Cannon Art Gallery, in the Carlsbad City Library Complex, 1775 Dove Lane.
The exhibition will include artworks by employees and family members, ranging from photography and watercolor to metal sculpture and fiber crafts. This year, cash prizes in 16 classifications will be awarded to participants for original, creative works in the field of fine arts and crafts.
The National Arts Program, sponsored by the National Arts Program Foundation, Inc., fosters creativity by providing artists of every level and age the opportunity to exhibit their works publicly. Since 1985, The National Arts Program has provided scholarships for continuing art education, certificates of participation, and cash awards to public employees and their family members.
Operated by the Carlsbad Arts Office, the Cannon Art Gallery is a focal point for arts and culture in San Diego’s North County, offering a broad range of exhibitions, school and family programs, gallery tours, lectures and publications to the community.
The galleries are open Tuesdays through Sundays. For information on all Gallery programs, contact the William D. Cannon Gallery (760) 602-2021 or at www.carlsbadca.gov/arts.
