Children’s Choir sings with the aloha spirit

COAST CITIES — The San Diego Children’s Choir has returned from the ninth annual Pacific Rim Chorus Festival in Hawaii. The touring choir, along with Director Michael Morgan, was sent to sing in the festival under the artistic direction of conductor Henry Leck.
The Pacific Rim Children’s Chorus Festival is designed to provide treble children’s choirs, in grades six through 12, an opportunity to experience the cultures of the Pacific Rim countries through their choral music repertoire in an interactive, noncompetitive, creative environment. Participants interactively explore music, dance, instruments, language and story-telling with native speakers and instructors at the Polynesian Cultural Center on Oahu, Hawaii. Students also had opportunities to visit cultural landmarks, such as Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head Crater, Hunauma Bay, and other beautiful Hawaiian sights.
The San Diego Children’s Choir joined 11 other choirs from the U.S and Canada, at the Blaisdell Concert Hall on July 19, along with special guests Philippine Tinikling Bamboo Dancers, Korean Fan Dancers, Taiko Drummers, Rolando Sanchez from Salsa Hawaii, Tahitian Drummers, beautiful Hula Dancers, several instrumentalists and soloists, Chad Williams & Malia Ka’ai Barrett.
San Diego Children’s Choir will be holding auditions for singers for the 2010 school year in August. Call the choir office (858) 587-1087 or visit www.sdcchoir.org
