CARLSBAD — The Carlsbad Police Department’s Communication Center received a telephone call on Jan. 21 at approximately 10:45 that a bank robbery had just occurred at Wachovia Bank located at 6998 El Camino Real in Carlsbad.
The caller described the suspect as a white adult male, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing approximately 160 pounds, wearing a baseball cap and glasses. The suspect passed a demand note requesting large bills, no dye packs, and stated he had a weapon. The teller gave the suspect an unknown amount of cash.
The suspect fled the bank and was seen leaving the area in a white Ford F-150 northbound on El Camino Real. A detective saw a vehicle and driver matching the description going northbound on Melrose Drive. The detective followed the suspect into Vista, where officers conducted a high-risk felony vehicle stop and contacted the suspect.
The suspect has been identified as Charles Hollingsworth, 48, of Vista. A search of Hollingsworth’s truck resulted in the seizure of the money and demand note.
Hollingsworth was transported to the Carlsbad Police Department for processing, but experienced medical problems and was transported to Tri-City Medical Center for treatment.
The FBI and Carlsbad Police Department are currently conducting a joint investigation.
