Stimulus cash rebates to start going out May 2
April 18, 2008
You gotta file tax form

Those stimulus cash rebates folks will be receiving to jack up the economy will start going out May 2 and continuing through July 11 depending on the last two digits of a person’s social security number. At the head of the line will be folks with direct deposit. Those whose last two digits end between 00 and 20 will be the first recipients. Next up May 9 will be folks with ending numbers between 21 and 75. Those with ending numbers between 76 and 99 will be paid May 16. Checks for recipients with social security numbers ending between 88 and 99 will be in the mail from May 16 through July 11. By then the economy should be pretty much stimulated if those who received their stipend earlier spent it instead of hoarding it in a savings account. To be eligible for the cash rebate you gotta file a 1040 Form even if you don’t owe the IRS a single penny. For more info, dial (800) 906-9887 or visit www.irs.gov. Do your part to stimulate the economy by spending your rebate promptly before the Washington electeds figure out how they can get their mitts on it by imposing a 75 percent stimulus tax.

You figger

Some folks who were complaining that the 22nd District Agricultural Assn. (San Diego County Fairgrounds) was going to install a temporary train station for the fair and races that would cause more pollution and noise are lamenting that it won’t happen this year. Now they are saying it will create more traffic and gridlock. Alternative to arriving by auto during the fair is to park free at the Horse Park every day and MiraCosta College or Torrey Pines High School on weekends and ride a free shuttle to the main entrance. Last summer 155,069 folks took advantage of this freebie. The temporary train station has been postponed due to money priorities. Scheduled before next year’s fair is to roof the Horse Show arena and replace the sewer line between the fairgrounds and Del Mar’s sanitation facility west of the San Dieguito River.

Back to its origin?

Street Scene, a 24-year-old music festival that originated in the harbor city’s Gaslamp Quarter, likely will be returning there this year. It has played at Qualcomm Stadium and Coors Amphitheater in Chula Vista. Sponsored by Live Nation, a national music organization, it had reserved the fairgrounds last year but cancelled because of reported slow ticket sales. It went to Chula Vista where it reportedly fared even worse. The nonappearance at the fairgrounds likely was caused by the strict policy it has for the sale of merchandise, parking regulations and security enforcement.
