LA COSTA — Former MLB Silver Slugger-winner Rick Rhoden carded a two-day final score of 146 (+2) to claim the 2014 Celebrity Championship hosted by Marshall Faulk at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa May 18.
Tournament Director Dave Miller announced that this year’s tournament raised more than $135,000 for the Junior Seau Foundation and the Marshall Faulk Foundation. Announced at the pairings party, funds will also be donated to support the displaced families from the San Diego wildfires.
Rhoden, the most winning celebrity in the celebrity golf circuit, played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Pittsburg Pirates, Houston Astros and New York Yankees during his 16-year career. The final leaderboard had football pro Trent Dilfer and actor Lucas Black both at +4 and NFL pro Jay Feely and basketball great Jack Marin at +5.
Former San Diego State great and NFL Hall-of-Famer Marshall Faulk served as tournament host for a second year.
“I’ve realize that I’ve been blessed, and I recognize how important it is to pay it forward. The best part about this tournament is that it’s all about San Diego charities. I am humbled and proud to support my friend Junior Seau, and to do my part in carrying on his incredible legacy in his hometown,” Faulk said.
The event featured more than 50 celebrities from the NFL, NHL, NBA, and MLB as well as Olympians and stars from the music industries, television and motion pictures. Celebrities including Marshall Faulk, Ray Romano, Brian Baumgartner, Tim Brown, David Wells, Steve Finley, Troy Glaus, Danny Woodhead, Bruce Jenner and Jermaine Dye, contributed in giving their time and support at this year’s Celebrity Championship.
