ENCINITAS — The Encinitas 101 MainStreet Association will have an unveiling ceremony its newest landmark and invites the community come help celebrate the occasion at 1 p.m. May 6 at the Santa Fe Undercrossing on Coast Highway 101.
The association will install a colorful 8-foot-by-10-foot sign to welcome visitors at the at the south entrance to Downtown Encinitas. Surfing industry legend Don Hansen gave permission for the installation on his property.
Designed by two prominent local artists, Terry Weaver and Bob Partlow, and funded in part by the county of San Diego, this distinctive sign features a collage painted on sandblasted redwood and an inset tile mosaic. It will be installed just north of the Santa Fe Road undercrossing, on the east side of Coast Highway 101.
