Hannah Kent speaks at ‘Spring Author Talk’

RANCHO SANTA FE — The Rancho Santa Fe Library Guild is gearing up for their “Spring Author Talk” featuring Hannah Kent April 24. Author of the historical fictional piece, “Burial Rites,” critics are calling Kent’s debut novel brilliant.  The literary work takes readers back to Iceland, in 1829, when a young lady is indicted for murder.

Kent, who was born in South Australia, conveys that her novel was inspired by a true story.

Susan Appleby, Membership and Development Manager at the Rancho Santa Fe Library Guild, read “Burial Rites,” and thoroughly appreciated it on so many levels.

“I really enjoyed how the author developed both the character and the setting,” Appleby said. “It was easy to visualize what Iceland looked like.”

Appleby also wants people to know that if it weren’t for their sponsor, Donald Johnson of Wells Fargo Advisors in Rancho Santa Fe, they wouldn’t be able to have these events.

“We’ve had our author talks since the fall of 2011 and could not have done them without Donald’s support — we are so grateful,” she said.

Appleby said their guild is also partnered with Warwick’s of La Jolla, which helps book their authors while the writers are on book tours.

The “Spring Author Talk” will begin April 24 at 11:30 a.m. and end at approximately 1:30 p.m. Appleby said the cost is $40 which will include a light lunch, followed by Kent’s presentation, question and answer session, and then an opportunity to have a copy of “Burial Rites” personally signed by Kent.

To take part in “Spring Author Talk,” Appleby shared, attendees must be Rancho Santa Fe Library Guild members.  However, membership can be from other towns. To learn more about the guild membership or to make “Spring Author Talk” reservations please visit rsflibraryguild.org or call (858) 756-4780.
