CARLSBAD — The Carlsbad Planning Commission unanimously approved several projects, including a new loft building in the Village, a La Costa Resort golf course renovation and the Kelly Corporate Center, at its Jan. 30 meeting.
All of the projects will move forward should City Council follow the commission’s recommendations and also give its approval at a later meeting.
In an effort to revitalize Carlsbad Village, the commission approved the building of the Railyard Lofts, a new three-story, 11,493-square-foot loft building at 2685 State St. The building will consist of four residential condo units and parking.
“I hope this will be a catalyst. North State Street has been neglected,” said Commissioner Hap L’Heureux.
“Before we know it, we’ll be the next Del Mar!” said Nina Sgueglia, a Carlsbad resident who owns the building next to the proposed site.
The La Costa Resort will be making improvements to its south course once construction begins May 1. The section of the course is anticipated to be completed and reopened Nov. 1.
The site development plan for the Kelly Corporate Center, a future office building to be located near Palomar Airport Road, was granted a four-year extension.
The commission also approved additional repairs for the North Batiquitos sewer lift station after a sewage spill into the lagoon last October. The station will abandon the broken pipe, replacing it with a new pipe and installing a new manifold system to avoid future leaks.
