OCEANSIDE — The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), with the city of Oceanside and North County Transit District are hosting a community open house for a bicycle project from 6 to 7:30 p.m. June 26 at the Oceanside Library Community Room, 300 N. Coast Highway 101. The purpose of this open house is to provide neighboring property owners and residents with information about the project, including:— Project design
— Specific project features, including landscaping and lighting
— Planning and construction schedules
The Coastal Rail Trail is part of a connected 44-mile bicycle trail between the Oceanside and San Diego. Later this year, SANDAG, in cooperation with Oceanside, will be constructing a segment of the planned trail between Oceanside Boulevard and Wisconsin Avenue. The bike path will be located on the westerly side of the NCTD-owned railroad property and will connect with the portion of the trail currently under construction on the north side of Wisconsin Avenue. Anyone interested in the project is welcome to attend.
The trail is part of a large network of bicycle facilities under construction throughout San Diego county as part of the Regional Bike Plan: Riding to 2050. The trail runs through multiple San Diego Coastal cities; several projects along the Trail are in Oceanside. This segment will extend an existing Class I bike path in Oceanside. Class I bike paths are bikeways that are physically separate from vehicular traffic.
The proposed planning and construction timeline expects:
— Improvement plan finalization – Summer 2012
— Initial project preparation – Summer 2012
— Advertisement for construction bid – Fall 2012
— Construction – December 2012 through June 2013
