Role players add to realism

CAMP PENDLETON — Marines with 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, conducted a scenario-based training exercise July 13.
The exercise involved Afghan role players who created an environment similar to what Marines may experience during their deployment.
“I think this training is going to be really beneficial for us when we get to Afghanistan because it’s important to learn how we’re going to have to deal with the cultural and language barriers,” said Cpl. Scott Bonnell, Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment.
Marines ate traditional Afghan food during a mock shura, which was designed to unite Marines and role players to overcome obstacles such as language and cultural barriers.
“It’s important that we learn how to talk to Afghans and learn how to deal with their problems,” said Bonnell, 24, an Oakland, Maine
