Donations still wanted for annual Holiday Baskets program

COAST CITIES — Improving and brightening lives for 28 years is the mission of the Community Resource Center. This year, the Encinitas Sheriff’s Station is asking everyone to join them in gathering and donating food, clothing, toys, bicycles, baby supplies and other items to the annual CRC Holiday Baskets Program set to begin Dec. 17.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 10, Dec. 11, and Dec.12, residents can enter through the Solana Gate at the Del Mar Fairgrounds Grandstands to drop off their donations. Call CRC’s Public Relations Director Suzanne Colby at (619) 977-1503 for more information on what is still needed.
The Community Resource Center’s 28th annual Holiday Baskets Program is the largest comprehensive holiday distribution program of its kind in San Diego County and will serve a record of more than 5,500 people in need this year. Hundreds of volunteers are now transforming the grandstands at the Del Mar Fairgrounds into a 20,000-square-foot shopping warehouse to provide struggling local families “free” holiday shopping this season. Eligible North County families will fill their shopping carts or “baskets” with items donated by the community.
The week of Dec. 11 will mark the final opportunity to fill in donation gaps for the program before doors open for distribution on Dec. 17. CRC and the Sheriff’s Encinitas station welcome donations of used bikes or bike parts. Instead of throwing them away, deputies make repairs and transform the bicycles into wonderful gifts. You can also donate used car seats, nonperishable food items, new toys, and gently used coats or jackets.
