Partial closure of Rock Springs Road planned

SAN MARCOS — Construction resumed in late October on the Rock Springs Road improvement project in San Marcos. The $1.8 million improvement project has been delayed since June 2010 when the city was forced to terminate the original contractor and pursue completion of the project though a bonding company.
A temporary road closure of Rock Springs Road will begin Nov. 15 in order to expedite the project’s completion, which is slated for March 2011
The following temporary road closures have been approved:
1. Rock Springs Road (Woodland Parkway to Richland Road North)

2. Richland Road North (Rock Springs Road to Linda Lane)
The road closures will be implemented during working hours from approximately 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, excluding weekends and holidays. Depending on weather conditions and other factors, the road closures are anticipated to last two to three months and may be modified as needed.
Through traffic will be detoured onto Woodland Parkway and Fulton Road. Access for residents, emergency vehicles, trash pickup, mail and other deliveries will be provided in the road closure areas.
“The city of San Marcos sincerely appreciates residents’ patience during this project and we apologize for the inconvenience this closure and detour creates,” City Engineer Mike Edwards said. “These road closures, however, will greatly accelerate the project’s completion.”
The Rock Springs Road improvement project includes constructing curb, gutter, sidewalks, medians, roundabouts and other related road improvements along Rock Springs Road from Richland Road to Woodland Parkway. It also includes adding sidewalks along the west side of Richland Road from Elizabeth Street to Mission Hills High School. The overall goal of the project is to provide safe routes to school for San Marcos students.
