Sandi Rush, of Carlsbad, and Stacey Tyree, of Mission Hills, participated in this year’s The HeadNorth Foundation Challenge, Day in a Chair, held April 10. HeadNorth, a nonprofit organization hosted the event which allows able-bodied individuals to experience every day life as a spinal cord injury survivor. Eleven teams of two participants, one a spinal cord injury survivor and the other an able-bodied volunteer, spent up to eight hours in wheelchairs. Each team participated in various challenges individuals in wheelchairs face during their typical day, such as cooking breakfast, walking the dog, playing tennis, cruising the boardwalk and shopping.
