FALSE ALARM: Earthquake prediction hoax making the rounds

There appears to be a rumor circulating that scientists have predicted a large-scale earthquake will hit the area within the next day or three days, depending on the “source.”
Snopes.com has reported this to be false and calls to Scripps Institute of Oceanography turned up no reports of any predicted activity.
The rumor is making the rounds via text messages and e-mails, usually citing a “friend of a friend” who works in a seismology department.
