Water Awareness Week on tap in Encinitas

ENCINITAS — To keep a constant level of awareness on water resource issues, the San Dieguito Water District, in conjunction with the Encinitas Branch Library and the Encinitas Environmental Commission, will be hosting Water Awareness Week activities March 18 through March 24 at the Encinitas Library, 505 S. Vulcan Ave.
Children’s activities include water-themed storytimes, craft activities and a visit from the “Splash Science Mobile Lab,” featuring a storm drain model, microscope station and hands-on GIS computer station. Adult events include a coordinated film and forum discussion on where our water comes from, threats to the water system from droughts and climate change, and decisions to be made regarding future supply.
The event schedule includes:
— March 18, toddler story time at 10 a.m., and preschool story time at 11 a.m.
— March 23, Fishy Friends Craft Time and Splash Science Mobile Lab from 2 to 4 p.m.
— March 24, film screening of documentary “Water on the Edge” from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m.
— March 24, Community Forum: “Uncertain Waters-Navigating California’s Critical Water Priorities” from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
— March 26, Water Conservation discussion and Expo from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m..
Speakers discuss changing out landscape to native and drought tolerant plants, including edibles. Vendors will be on hand to answer questions about gardening, design, plants and irrigation.
