Deputy Chief Don Shellhammer of the Vista Fire Department, pictured with Shadowridge Rotary President John Harmata, showed a slideshow and answered questions at a recent Shadowridge Vista Rotary luncheon meeting. Established on Aug. 17, 1928, the department now has six fire stations with 27 full-time firemen. Shellhammer stated that in conjunction with their work in fire issues, they also answer 70 percent of the medical aid needs in the area, as most members are trained to the level of paramedics. With the start of the fire season, Shellhammer stated that palm and vegetation management is the key to fire prevention. Visit to learn more. Courtesy photo
